On June 10, SurvTech once again had the privilege of participating in the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) camp at the MacDill Youth Center at MacDill Air Force Base. This year, the children learned about Ground Penetrating Rader (GPR) and how it is used to locate buried objects, such as utility structures.
Ray Hicks and Marcus Blythe from our Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) department gave the kids hands on experience, operating our equipment and examining the results.
David O'Brien joined others to share his wealth of knowledge, teaching the kids survey techniques and explaining how it all fits together to locate objects with accurate GPS coordinates.
As with last year, we were eagerly looking forward to teaching our trade to the young, bright, future surveyors, and we don't know who had more fun - us or the kids!
We would sincerely like to thank MacDill Airforce Base and SAME for the opportunity to participate and are already looking forward to next year!
